What Happens Inside Our Lungs during an Attack?

Lot of changes takes place in our respiratory track, at the onset of an asthma attack. One activity leads to another, thus giving rise to asthma attacks. An excessive excretion of mucus by the cells of air pipe obstructs the air passage leading to difficulty in breathing. The mucus further creates complications by entering into the lungs and settling in the small parts, which hold air for us to breathe.

This action of the cells has reaction on the muscles of the airways. They start to swell, and as these muscles are situated outside the air tubes, the swelling in them leads to contraction. As a result, even lesser air is able to pass through these air tubes. The sufferer also finds himself, unable to cough out the excessive phlegm. The inability to breathe properly and throwing out the phlegm, restrain the person from normal breathing process.

Now, inflammation occurs in the airways, probably because of getting insufficient air. This inflammation completely blocks the air tubes from the inner side, as it occurs on the tissue that lines the air tubes from inside. The combination of all these factors leads to symptoms like, wheezing and shortness of breath. In this situation, the person is said to be having an asthma attack.
