If you have any symptoms of asthma then you should become alert immediately and never ignore it for any reason. By taking care of yourself you are only safeguarding your future. Life is for enjoyment and fulfillment. But our own inefficiencies, neglect and inexperience leads us to despair in certain cases. Asthma is one such despairing condition which arises entirely out of neglect and ignorance. People suffering from asthma cannot enjoy life. They become confined to a very limited sphere of life. Moving out, dancing, running, playing, exercising or just any form of physical activity becomes a distant dream and leads to coughing and wheezing. Even the scent of a lighted candle can alarm a person who has asthma.
Recognizing The Symptoms Of Asthma
Symptoms of asthma can be understood easily especially in an adult. Then the point is that symptoms of asthma do not crop up all of a sudden. The seeds must have been sown at the stage of infancy. It is only when we ignore cough and wheezing in children as regular and ordinary that we face a problematic situation of asthma at a later stage. In any case whether you have asthma or not you will be in a position to handle it more effectively if you know and recognize the symptoms of asthma.
There are generally two types of symptoms of asthma. Either you will experience a mild attack or a serious one. In the mild stage you will get an attack once every year or in a few months. In the severe case you may get an attack every week or every day. In an acute situation you may get an attack every now and then. You need hospitalization in the acute stage.
Symptoms of asthma are caused by changes in the air inflow which irritate the air passage leading to narrowing of the passage and obstruction of air flow. If you experience breathlessness in some form of activity, it is a symptom of asthma. Another symptom is the tightening of the chest. Other symptoms of asthma are coughing and wheezing after too much laughing or crying or otherwise and shallow breathing. Difficulty in breathing, too much sneezing, frequent headaches, general weakness in the body, running nose and eyes and constant fatigue are other symptoms of asthma. Dark circles under the eyes, trouble in sleeping and itching on the throat and chin are symptoms of asthma too.
There are other indicative symptoms of asthma as well. If you do not care for your asthmatic condition then your condition will worsen with time. And similarly, the symptoms of asthma will also worsen. You will have to haunch your shoulders in order to breathe. You will also experience a change in the color of your skin. It will turn to bluish or grayish in color. You may also experience pain in your chest when you try to breathe. All these are the worst symptoms of asthma.
It is best to recognize symptoms of asthma as early as possible to be ready with treatment so that an attack can be minimized or avoided. Severe asthma attacks can sometimes be fatal if unattended immediately. Chalk out a treatment plan for yourself with your physical consultant which can be implemented as soon as you feel that an attack is in the offing. As a backup method you can start keeping a record of your attacks to keep a track of your asthma whether your condition is getting better or worse. All medicines should be close at hand, on person if possible, to provide immediate relief.
