Did you know that asthma and smoking go together hand in hand? The fact of the matter is that asthma is a serious problem that you want to avoid. But when you smoke, you are doing nothing but making things worse on yourself. Not only can smoking cause you to suffer from asthma, but it can also go a long way in making your current condition much worse. When it comes down to it, smoking is something that you should avoid for a number of different reasons. Sure, it will help your asthma, but at the same time it will do wonders for the rest of your health as well.

If you smoke you should do whatever it takes to stop right away. Studies have proven that smoking can make your asthma symptoms worse. Is this something that you want to do? To take things a step further, smoking can also undo the positive effect of any controller medicine that you may be taking. So if you are taking medicine to prevent asthma, it is safe to say that smoking will all but cancel this out.

You should also consider the fact that smoking will force you into using your “rescue medication” on a regular basis. This will set you back big time if you ever run into a situation where you really need your rescue medication, but find that it is all gone. Plus, the more that you need this medication the more money you are going to spend.

Many people have also found out the hard way that smoking can make nighttime asthma attacks much worse. When you smoke, there is a good chance that you are going to have a hard time sleeping at night. You may have attacks that consist of heavy, uncontrollable coughing and much more. In fact, some smokers deal with asthma attacks that are so severe that they end up in the emergency room. Is this something that you want to deal with?

On a side note, second hand smoke can also contribute to asthma attacks. Even though this can be difficult to avoid, you should do what you can to stay away from those who smoke.

Smoking is bad for your health, and this is especially true when it comes to your asthma. Even though you may not be able to completely control your asthma if you stop smoking, you will have a much better chance.

Overall, you cannot expect your asthma symptoms to get better if you smoke. You are more or less undoing all of the medicine that you are taking, while also making things worse on your overall level of health. Do yourself a favor and quit smoking today!
