Asthma In Children – Common Often Curable Ailment

Asthma in children is quite common. You will be surprised to learn that out of every ten children one child suffers from this disease. Most of the children become normal as they grow up, but for that it is essential that this disease is diagnosed in time and treated effectively. Asthma is a condition where the intake of air inside the lungs gets blocked and you feel choked. It is a bronchial condition. We all know that there is a single passage in the throat for air and food to go inside the body. In asthma this passage gets irritated due to various causes and starts squeezing and producing more mucus. This in turn blocks the free passage of air and the child has difficulty in breathing. 

Causes Of Asthma In Children

Although, there are no specific or known causes for asthma in children, there are many indicators, symptoms or outside influences that lead to asthma in children. One of the most common causes of asthma in children is the frequent attacks of cold and flu which is caused by a bronchial infection. Another reason for asthma can be that the child is prone to allergens like dust, some types of foods, some medicines, some smells, some animals and smoke. This leads to irritation of the throat and coughing. According to some doctors asthma is hereditary. Therefore, if parents have asthma then there is a greater chance that the children will also have it at a later stage.
 
During childhood children show the symptoms of asthma only in the form of cough and wheezing. It is best if asthma in children is diagnosed at an early stage and treatment is started at once so that the child grows up to be a normal adult. In majority of the cases it is this neglect at the early stages which leads to acute asthma. If you find the symptoms of asthma in your infant then you should prepare a plan along with your doctor to start treating it immediately. Any delay in action may lead to chest deformities in children. Do not hesitate to notify your doctor of any indications which you feel are important for the health of your child.
 
If your child shows any of the signs given below, which are known as premonitory symptoms, don’t neglect treatment for it may lead to an attack of asthma in your child at a later stage. Premonitory symptoms help in starting the process of prevention of asthma in children.
 
  • Frequent and unexplained stomach pain or indigestion.
  • Frequent changes in formula feed, which indicates poor adaptability to
  • Frequent diarrhea.
  • Frequent or too much vomiting.
  •  If the child shows great liking or disliking for specific foods.
  • If the child develops unexplained rashes.
  • If the parents or a parent has any allergy.
  • Complaint of chest pain or heaviness in the chest.
  • Loss of weight without reason.
  • Less inclination for activity and remains lethargic most of the time.
 
If these symptoms are taken seriously and proper attention is given to child’s diet and exercise then asthma in children can be cured easily. Asthma is a disease which is caused mainly when we overlook certain symptoms in our children and allow them to aggravate.
 
 Moreover, our changing lifestyles are exposing us to different external conditions like pollution, dust and smoke which develops conditions of asthma in children. In general, if you are a conscious parent then pay attention to every unusual action of your child like too much coughing and sneezing and make sure it does not happen again. Remember, prevention is always better than cure.
